Chess themed, Mixed Metals Art Masterpiece. Silver plated, nickel, copper, brass and rose wood lined interior jewelry, trinket or cigar box with several types of stone all beautifully inlaid and constructed together.
Masterfully well done piece of art. Excellent condition. This is the finest box of this type i have ever seen. Taxco's Los Castillo have produced other boxes of this nature by some of thier other 500 well trained artists but this one is made by the ANTONIO CASTILLO. Antonio is no longer.with.us, meaning that his art works are no longer available.
The President of Mexico, Luis Escheveria ordered 6 of these same type of boxes to be made as gifts for the European head's of state in the early 70"s. That's provenance!
You will find other comparisons; some made of sterling and some of brass or silver plate. When you check the signatures, if they are tr-300 it is made by the 300th artist in the company tr-350 the 350th, tr-400 is the 400th artist and so on. The box i am selling is signed taxco los castillo tr-o1 for the very first artist and founder Antonio Castillo.
